As major automotive groups have successively released their first-half performance reports, the global ranking of major automotive groups' sales has officially been revealed. According to the statistics, Toyota (including Hino and Daihatsu) topped the list with 5.5449 million vehicles sold in the first half of this year, and it is the only automaker with sales exceeding 5 million. Volkswagen and Hyundai-Kia Group of South Korea still ranked second and third, with global sales of 4.4053 million and 3.6542 million vehicles respectively in the first half. General Motors ranked fourth with 2.988 million vehicles sold globally in the first half. Stellantis was the automaker with the largest decline among the top ten, dropping by 8% to 2.69 million vehicles, and was overtaken by General Motors, falling to fifth place.
BYD, one of China's largest automakers, surpassed Honda and Nissan with 2.146 million vehicles sold in the first half of this year, climbing to the seventh place in the global sales ranking. SAIC Motor and Geely Holding Group ranked eighth and ninth respectively, with both achieving double-digit growth in sales in the first half of the year, reaching 2.0526 million and 1.9317 million vehicles respectively. Honda's global sales declined by 5.09% year-on-year to 1.78 million in the first half, ranking tenth. Nissan's sales dropped by 9.51% year-on-year to 1.655 million in the first half, falling out of the top ten.
Domestic insurance registration data shows that in July 2025, the sales volume of new energy vehicles in China was 1.048 million units, increasing by 12.4% year-on-year and decreasing by 12.2% month-on-month. The penetration rate of new energy vehicles was 51.0%, up by 4.3 percentage points compared with the same period last year. From January to July this year, the cumulative sales volume of new energy vehicles in China was 6.723 million units, increasing by 29.0% year-on-year, with a penetration rate of 47.3%. In July this year, the sales volume of new energy vehicles in major cities was also released. The top three cities were Beijing (35,400 units), Chengdu (33,300 units), and Shanghai (30,800 units). Guangzhou, Chengdu, Wuhan, Ningbo, Chongqing, Zhengzhou, and Hangzhou all ranked in the top 10.
Beijing, the top-ranked city, saw a 15.3% decline in sales compared to the previous month. Sales in Chengdu and Shanghai also dropped. Guangzhou's new energy vehicle sales stood at 30,200 units, a 14.8% decrease from the previous month. Chengdu's sales were 30,000 units, a 9.7% decline. In terms of the month-on-month changes in the top 100 list, the performance of some cities was quite notable. Ningbo's sales reached 23,500 units in July, a 50.1% increase from the previous month, making it the city with the highest month-on-month growth that month. However, some cities faced challenges with declining sales, such as Shenyang, which sold 7,500 units, a 46.0% decrease from the previous month, and Ganzhou, which sold 3,300 units, a 45.4% decline.
